Urethane Cement installed by PennCoat Inc – Easy Solutions for Tough Environments

Urethane Cement

Synopsis:

Because of its strength, durability, and resistance to chemicals, Urethane Cement proves to be the most resourceful floor coating system for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries.

Breakdown of industrial benefits:

  • Durability – recommended for medium to heavy duty applications
  • Excellent chemical and stain resistance
  • Slip-resistant
  • Heat resistant
  • Application

When a coating company provides 25 years of optimum service, it naturally learns that there are more effective applications than others.  Food and pharmaceutical facilities and plants always pose a more challenging condition, as their floors are subject to radical temperature change, and corrosive chemicals that can quickly deteriorate ordinary floors.  Urethane cement always proves to be the superior application for these conditions.  Its durability can handle medium to heavy duty application, resistance to chemicals, stains, and heat, while providing a nice display.

Durability

Urethane cement provides some of the most durable solutions for industries dealing with medium to heavy duty applications.  Self-leveling urethane cement scores only a 65 on Shore D’s Hardness scale, while the more solid systems can score as high as an 85.  To put that in perspective, a golf ball would score a 65 on Shore D’s Hardness scale, while a bowling ball would score an 85.

Additionally, UC performs well with compressive strength (ranging 7800 PSI to 8500 PSI), tensile strength (950 PSI to 4200 PSI), and flexural strength (3300 PSI to 5076 PSI).  These results prove that UC is a stronger option than popular floor systems like epoxy.

Resistance

But not only is UC strong, but it is also resistant to heat, stains, chemicals, and slippage.  Often, when working with food, beverages, or pharmaceuticals, the floors are subject to extreme temperature ranges from boiling water, steam, and chemical reactants.  Most flooring systems are susceptible to these conditions, but UC has been designed with these conditions in mind.  UC can withstand temperatures as high as 220 degrees Fahrenheit.  That’s well above boiling temperature (212 degrees F).

But not only is it impervious to high temperatures, it is a non-porous floor system.  So if your plant is subject to the risk of a chemical spill, you’ll definitely want to consider a UC customized to resist chemicals.  Or, if you are frequently cleaning your floors, the chemicals used to clean will not be able to penetrate the UC.

Application

The benefits of urethane cement expand beyond its strength and resistance.  Application is another major benefit, as plant and facility workers are able to return to their duties quickly, without the hindrance of odors.  Typically, an application will be ¼” – ½” inches thick, depending on which UC is being applied.  The thickness of the application will also influence the cure time.  If dealing with a more flexible UC, then cure time will be faster, clocking in at about 6-8 hours for light traffic, but typically about 16 hours for full service traffic.  The stronger UC’s can be a little longer, requiring 12-16 hours for light foot and wheel traffic.  But full traffic will require 3-5 days.  These times are very fast cure times, considering the quality coat being applied.

And in addition to the cure, urethane cement is practically odor free.  Without odors, PennCoat Inc can install the urethane cement, while the facility remains occupied with its work force.  This means that production can continue in adjacent areas.  This odor-free quality will allow the work force to return or continue to work in the facility quickly, rather than having to be removed because of noxious fumes.  And the sooner the work force can return, the sooner that facility can return to production.

In conclusion, urethane cement proves to be a viable solution for any plant or facility that manufactures food, beverages, chemicals, or pharmaceuticals.  Its resistance to heat, corrosive chemicals, and durability make it an ideal flooring system for these facilities.  And also, with its quick cure time and odor-less properties, urethane cement requires little application time, so that the work force may quickly return to the facility.
